Study Visas

A study visa is a visa to allow an overseas national to study in a foreign country for the duration of their course/degree.

We get requests in daily about study visas.

We will explain what the general requirements are:

  1. Confirmation of your placement in whichever university /college you wish to study in. ( Original letter is always better then an email confirmation)
  2. Copies of your current educational status ( this is to prove that you are indeed eligible to study in the college)
  3. A Bank account and financial statements for the preceding 6-12 months. Of all the procedures this is the most important one and is the main reason why many potential students do not get student visas.
  4. We know of people who have applied for a student visa to the UK and were turned down only because although they had the sufficient money in their bank account it had only been deposited 1 month before they applied.
  5. All governments’ welcome overseas students to study but they all are wary of the financial implications involved.
  6.  Far too many students have not had the sufficient funds for their stay or have spent their funds and then end up being supported by the governments.
  7. This is the reason why if you have a bank account for a year and there regular deposits /withdrawals it shows good financial sense and the governments will be far more likely to offer you a student visa then if you have just set  up an account.
  8. Make sure you have medical and or travel insurance. Depending upon the country and your nationality you may also need a medical report.
  9. Make sure you know where your local embassy/ Consulate are.
  10.  Please check what the limitations are for working, many countries will allow you to do part time work whilst you are studying but there are restrictions in what you can and cannot do.

Before you choose a university/college please go to the local embassy/consulate in your country. Example. You want to study in the UK (best education in the world- we are British run and managed so we are biased!)  then the very first thing you need to do is to chat to your local British Council office in your country. They will be able to offer you as list of approved universities and colleges. Also will be able to tell you whether there are any student associations in your country British-Thai, Nigerian, Indian, Vietnamese, and Saudi etc. If there are contact them and see if there any members who have been to the university you are planning to go to. Listen to their advice.
